The OneOak tree was felled on January 20th 2010. The tree was felled by Blenheim foresters, watched by some 250 school children and our project supporters, including many of the future users of the tree’s wood.
We are following the wood stories as they emerge, from the felling of the tree and its transportation to the local sawmill Deep in Wood, and then from the sawmill to the many wood users that will be working with the oak timber. Both the source of the tree (Blenheim Estate) and the sawmilll (Deep in Wood) have been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.
We will be attempting to provide an accurate assessment of how much of the tree is used and converted to different products – we are calling this our Woodometer. We will also follow the carbon story, from the estimation of how much carbon was contained in the tree, to a calculation of the final carbon footprints of some of the products.
Products
As our partners convert the OneOak tree’s wood to a range of products we will be following the stories in detail.
