Southern Oxfordshire LEADER project – Enhancing South Oxfordshire's forestry sector
In May 2010 the myForest service was awarded a LEADER grant to support woodland owners in mapping and managing their woodlands in the Southern Oxfordshire LEADER area and to provide a platform for reconnecting the local wood-chain.
SYLVA have teamed up with the Oxfordshire Woodland Project (OWP) to work on the enhancement of South Oxfordshire forestry sector and to achieve the range of social, economic and environmental benefits that go hand in hand with sustainably managed and productive woodlands.
Through the myForest service, the project aims to promote the Southern Oxfordshire LEADER area as a “beacon” of forestry and as an example of how local links between woodland owners and wood-using business can be fostered to achieve sustainable rural economies.
In addition to working with the OWP, SYLVA is working in partnership with local and national organisations, to deliver the resources and training made available by the myForest project, in the South Oxfordshire LAG area.
As part of the project we arrange training in carrying out a simple woodland inventory, as it is believed that in understanding your woodland resource a strong first step towards sustainable woodland management has been taken.
If you are a woodland owner or a wood-using business in the Southern Oxfordshire LEADER area, please contact us, we are able to provide training in the use of the myForest web service and there will be a number of meetings held across the LEADER area throughout the duration of the project to give forestry stakeholders a chance to network and learn about the myForest service.
