About us
Our mission: reviving Britain's wood culture

The Sylva Foundation is a charitable trust and a company limited by guarantee. Our passions are supporting forestry science, promoting trees and their management to the public, and supporting the production and availability of home-grown timber. We run a number of projects under our Science, Education and Forestry programmes.

The Sylva Foundation arose from work initiated through the think-tank Forestry Horizons, which was conceived by Sir Martin Wood and Dr Gabriel Hemery in 2006.

Our charitable objects are to promote the conservation of the environment for the public benefit consistent with sustainable development principles by:
  1. advancing education for the public benefit in the theory and practice of sustainable forest management;
  2. the promotion and conduct of research for the public benefit about effective sustainable forest management and the dissemination of the useful results of such research;
  3. supporting the development and application of sustainable forest management for the public benefit.

2009-10 Annual Review Our Annual Review for 2009-10, our first year in operation, is available for download as a pdf. If you require a full resolution version it is available here (8.59MB). Our formal trustee report and financial statement are available direct from the Charity Commission.
